Travel Chronicles - Juragan99 Sleeper Bus
I rode a sleeper bus for the first time in my life last week, and all things considered, it was amazing. I'd definitely do it again. For the price of Rp. 660.000 per ticket you get to enjoy a relatively spacious private compartment, a full meal, snacks, and AVOD (advertising video on demand) if you're lucky.
Some poor-quality images of the inside of the compartment and the view from the window:
We took the Juragan99 sleeper class (comfort class?) from Flower Town to Sad Town (if you live in Indonesia you'll be able to figure out what cities I'm referring to) and back. We departed from Flower Town at 5-6PM and arrived around 7AM because there were some bus troubles; we departed from Sad Town at 8:15AM and arrived at around 9PM.
For reference, a previous Cititrans bus trip (similar departure and destination points) took about 10-11 hours.
Pros:
- Private compartment is roomy, especially compared to train seats
- Safer for families traveling with children
- Food and snacks are delicious!
- Great views from the windows
- Full toll means you can get to your destination quite fast
- Occasional discounts up to Rp. 100.000 per ticket
Cons:
- Can get FREEZING, especially at night! Bring a sweater or hoodie for max comfort
- Some people smoke cigarettes on the bus and the smell isn't properly contained
- Not as smooth (AKA, more bumpy) as a train ride, can cause nausea
- TV/sound systems don't always work
- Can be unnecessarily difficult to order seats... the Juragan99 app is confusing
- Not as fast as Cititrans
We stopped at a massive rest area owned by Rosalia Indah. It was eerie.
Look at the beautiful landscape.
